Canadian Senate commends Burna Boy, Nollywood

The Canadian Senate recently debated Nollywood and Nigerian Afrobeats musician Burna Boy.

The Senate of the United States of America evaluated the development and internationalization of Nigeria’s film and music industries.

Burna Boy’s success as a traveling performer was especially praised by Marcel Lebleu, Director General, West and Central African Bureau, Global Affairs Canada.

He praised the Grammy winner for becoming the first African to sell out Montreal’s storied Bell Centre twice in a row.

“I don’t know if you know Burna Boy,” Lebleu remarked. He sings Afrobeats music. Three weeks ago, he sold out The Bell Centre twice while he was in Montreal. That comes to almost 35,000 people.

He was in Toronto as well. Although we don’t give it much thought, the culture industry is a significant one. Take Nollywood, for instance.

The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairman, Senator Peter Boehm, continued, saying, “I was listening to Burna Boy the other night.”

After the video went viral, Boehm also revealed on his verified X Twitter that he is a major admirer of Burna Boy.

“Being tall, I still like to listen to @burnaboy ‘Twice as Tall’ (2020) on my playlist,” he stated in his post.
