WhatsApp tests a Meta AI chatbot in India and other countries.

WhatsApp is experimenting with artificial intelligence (AI) by testing its Meta chatbot among users in India and a few other countries. This calculated action highlights the platform’s goal of growing its AI offerings by utilizing its sizable user base.

Reportedly, WhatsApp has started testing its AI chatbot with a portion of its Indian user base. The chatbot was previously exclusive to certain areas, such as the U.S. India, with its astonishing 500 million+ users, is WhatsApp’s biggest market worldwide.

The parent firm of WhatsApp, Meta, confirmed the trial. A representative from Meta said, “Our generative AI-powered experiences are under development at various stages, and we are conducting public tests of several of them in a limited capacity.”

In late September, Meta released its all-purpose digital assistant, Meta AI. In addition to its amazing capacity to produce lifelike graphics from text inputs, this chatbot is designed to provide straightforward answers to user inquiries inside of chat threads.

With WhatsApp boasting a massive user base of over 2 billion monthly active users, Meta is in a unique position to grow its AI efforts. Through the integration of Meta AI into WhatsApp, Meta might potentially surpass its competitors in terms of impact and reach by showcasing its state-of-the-art language model and image generating skills to a wider audience.

To further demonstrate its dedication to the development and innovation of AI, the company recently announced that it will release Llama 3, the latest version of its open-source large language model, within the next month.
